Union Minister Mr, Mandaviya Inaugurated The Newly Constructed Parking Yard In Kamarajar Port

chennai ; Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Shipping (Independent Charge) and Chemicals and Fertilizers visited Kamarajar Port  , During his visit to the Port Shri Mandaviya inaugurated the newly constructed parking yard, new  gate complex and guest house. These projects have been developed at a cost of Rs.61.39 crores.  Parking Yard and New Gate Complex would streamline the traffic movement in Port.


Shri Mandaviya inspected the various cargo handling terminals of Kamarajar Port. He was apprised of the various on-going construction and development activities in Kamarajar Port.


The  Union Minister for Shipping held a detailed review regarding performance of the Port with its officials. Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairman cum Managing Director, Kamarajar Port briefed the Minister about different areas in which the Port is trying to diversify its operations. The CMD also detailed out the connectivity projects undertaken in a big way by Kamarajar Port. Shri Mandaviya  in his remarks stressed the need for timely completion of all the developmental activities.


Later, Shri Mandaviya held  an interactive session with the terminal operators and other stakeholders of the Port. Kamarajar Port has its cargo terminals operated mostly on PPP  and  captive user model. The stakeholders expressed their satisfaction over the cooperation of Kamarajar Port in conducting the terminal operations. Shri Mandaviya urged for a healthy and transparent interaction between the Port and the terminal operators so that the trade and industry could benefit with the developmental activities of Kamarajar Port in an optimal manner.


Kamarajar Port is the youngest amongst the Twelve Major Ports under Ministry of Shipping and is the only Corporatised Port. It handled 34.50 million tonnes cargo in the financial year 2018-19.  The recently commissioned LNG Terminal is going to be the main energy source supplier to the industries of Tamilnadu. Shri Mandaviya while underlining these facts urged the Port to make all out efforts to realize its full potential of becoming a model port.
